Licensed Professional Counselor, Board Certified Art Therapist (LPC, ATR_BC)

Life is stressful. There are times when even the best organized, thoughtful, careful, intelligent person finds themselves overwhelmed and feeling alone. Whether it's a long-term chronic issue that you have finally decided to work through such as a childhood issue or trauma related to abuse; or you are dealing with a newer problem such as an identity crisis, job challenge, or relationship issue- I can help.

I work by using systems theory to help understand the forces that have shaped you, redefine the structure of your household, and encourage solutions for the smaller issues so that you have the energy to tackle the larger ones. I use cognitive therapy to help you examine past choices and make decisions that are more in line with your current goals. I am also a board-certified art therapist so if you would like to express yourself creatively or examine your issues through art, I can provide this opportunity.

As a trauma specialist, I can tell you that many of us have had significant traumatic incidents in our lives that have altered our development.  Sometimes these events are acute, meaning that they have a beginning and an end, like a car accident, an illness or a death.  Other times, this trauma is a long, ongoing process that has a beginning sometime in our childhood and an end sometime after we have become an adult.  Sometimes it’s caused by another hurting us but other times it’s sneakier and comes in a form that we might never think of as “trauma.”

That could be a history of being bullied, a minor accident, another person’s mental health (like a parent with borderline personality disorder or bipolar), or even being too harshly disciplined.  All these traumas impact us.  They create drama in our lives, and that drama can make it hard to find fulfillment or a sense of peace within your relationships or even your career.

EMDR- eye movement desensitization and reprocessing, is a well-researched type of therapy that can help you to identify the traumatizing event and help you to resolve it. Considered to be a “gold-standard” therapy, EMDR helps your brain to reassess how you have been impacted by your trauma and allows your memories to be part of your past instead of always in the present.  The best part is you don’t have to share the details, which, is often a stumbling block to getting help. EMDR, in which I’m trained, help you to give up your ghosts and live a better life.

My approach is always strength-based and non-judgmental because I'm not perfect and I would never expect you to be. By giving me a call today, we can start a conversation about how I can help.
