EMDR Therapy

The memories keep tripping you up, sometimes when you least expect them. Maybe you’re just walking down Aisle 5 of the grocery store, picking your kids up from school, or about to be intimate with your spouse. Maybe you’re just sitting in a restaurant with friends when you’re supposed to be having a good time. In those moments, you feel caught off guard – you’re usually pretty good about putting those memories in the backseat. But still, when they crop up, it feels like the images in your head will never leave you alone. Sometimes, they even literally take your breath away because they’re so vivid.

Maybe you’ve already googled about EMDR (Eye Movement and Desensitization Reprocessing) and are wondering if it could help you with taming those images in your brain, and the memories and bad feelings that seem to come out of nowhere. What you’ve read sounds intriguing.

It’d be nice to be able to put those memories and images in the back seat once and for all.

Here’s how Integrity Psychological Services Helps Adults with EMDR Therapy:

Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) is a well-researched treatment approach that helps people to heal from the symptoms and distress that can result from disturbing experiences.

It used to be thought that healing the effects of trauma required years to treat. Multiple research studies on EMDR, however, show that rapid outcomes can be possible in as few as 4 to 12 sessions, depending on the nature of the trauma.

With EMDR, thoughts, feelings and behaviors are transformed – without the need to speak in detail about the distressing event.

As is the case with physical healing, we have seen that the brain’s processing system naturally moves toward mental health.

Sometimes, when we experience a traumatic event it’s so distressing that the memories and the impacts of these experiences may not get integrated effectively into our life experience and can cause intense suffering. Using the detailed protocols of EMDR, these barriers can be removed and enable the brain’s natural healing processes.

EMDR can be utilized to focus on past events, current experiences, and for distress and worry related to upcoming situations.

EMDR is recognized by the American Psychiatric Organization, the World Health Organization and the Department of Defense as an effective form of psychotherapy in the treatment of trauma.

Integrity Psychological Services is a caring, warm and non-judgy group of psychologists, counselors and therapists. We understand the challenges that you face as a result of your trauma/distressing memories and we have therapists who specialize in this area with the required post-graduate certifications, training and experience to offer EMDR.

Integrity Psychological Services specializes in the use of research-backed treatments like EMDR to assist with childhood trauma, acute trauma, and other forms of distressing memories that just don’t seem to resolve on their own.

In working with us, you’ll learn how trauma affects both the body and the brain, understand why past situations are keeping you feeling so stuck, and be able to work through those events so that you can begin to move forward in your life, work, and relationships. EMDR treatment can potentially have you feeling much freer in a relatively short period of time.
