I'm an experienced, licensed psychologist who has been helping people get "unstuck" from unhelpful behavior patterns for over 20 years. Whether you're facing a temporary, difficult life situation or struggling with more long-standing problems like depression or anxiety, I can help. My style is direct and active - I don't simply nod my head while you talk. I'll listen closely, we'll work together on the problem and I'll offer you supportive, non-judgmental and practical feedback that will help you to navigate through the issue as quickly and effectively as possible.
Anxiety reduction is a central focus and specialization of my practice. Examples of areas in which I specialize include chronic work-related stress, challenges with life transitions like post-divorce adjustment, retirement, relocation, career changes, the end of a romantic relationship, and panic attacks, social anxiety and chronic worry.
I also have extensive experience in working with the stressors that are unique to teachers and other high-stress occupations. In addition, I also offer career testing to assist with work transition issues.

The decision to seek help from a mental health professional is not an easy one. If you’ve never been in therapy before, you likely have no idea what to expect, and you may worry that you’ll be judged, criticized, or labeled as “crazy.” If you have been to therapy before, the thought of “starting all over” with someone new can also be overwhelming, especially if your previous experiences haven’t been very helpful.

Whether you’re a therapy veteran or a newbie, I believe I can help. Because I believe that therapy is not a “one size fits all” endeavor, I will listen to what you want to get out of therapy so that I can use my expertise to guide you in a way that fits your unique needs and circumstances. As a licensed Clinical Psychologist, I use scientifically-proven techniques to help you develop the concrete skills you need to get the results you want. In addition, I use an active, direct, and non-judgmental approach to help you gain insight into the ways you may be unintentionally limiting yourself.

I received my doctorate in Clinical Psychology at The Wright Institute in Berkeley, California, and I received my Bachelor of Arts degrees in Psychology and Music from the University of California at Santa Barbara. In addition, I am currently a member of the American Psychological Association.

I  specialize in relationship issues and in helping to resolve grief and loss. To read more about my particular areas of expertise, please click here.

Have your difficulties become so overwhelming that your mind no longer feels like a comfortable, safe place?  Maybe you recognize yourself struggling to work through painful memories or feel trapped by past hurt?  My clients often come to me after feeling stuck for so long which has left them feeling tired, hopeless, and at times, ashamed. I believe that within every person lies the ability to make positive changes and live in a meaningful way that aligns with their values and beliefs.  I also know that, sometimes, this can be difficult because of barriers caused by difficult circumstances, unhelpful thought patterns, and distressing emotions.

As a licensed psychologist, I am trained in and experienced with utilizing evidence-based practices to help people overcome these barriers in a warm, supportive, and non-judgmental way.  I listen closely to understand your unique context so that we can collaboratively identify a plan to help you feel better as quickly as possible. My areas of specialization include working with adults and adolescents who are struggling with life transitions, self-esteem, depression, anxiety, and relationship issues.

I have additional training and passion working with adult survivors of childhood emotional abuse and neglect. I also specialize in helping couples, including those who are struggling with moving past infidelity.

I believe that finding a good fit with a therapist is an essential part of any therapeutic process.  If my approach feels like it could be what you are looking for, please contact me to learn more about how we can work together.

Life can be challenging and stressful. Deciding to seek therapy shows your courage and desire to work towards improving your overall health and well-being. I’m a licensed professional counselor and board certified art therapist with over 12 years of experience working within the mental health field. I specialize in providing support and guidance for those experiencing trauma, loss, depression and/or anxiety.

My approach is to be both strength-based in helping you to recognize your own abilities and to positively challenge you to identify changes and coping skills necessary for you to be more successful in your daily activities and responsibilities.

My background includes working with adults, children, adolescents and families. It’s up to you if you are interested in traditional therapeutic discussion or if you would like to incorporate creative art in your sessions. Often times, art can be a bridge to uncovering more about yourself that can be difficult in the beginning to put into words.

Therapy is a process and a journey, and you don’t have to do it alone. I’m very interested in being a part of this journey to support you with no judgement in reaching your personal goals. Please contact me to today to discuss the challenges you or a family member are facing.

Reaching out for help requires strength and you are taking the first step now by acknowledging that need. Maybe a relationship issue has you sad and confused or perhaps several negative or complicated life situations are causing you to feel overwhelmed and/or depressed. If so, you may appreciate the opportunity to talk about them with a compassionate, caring and open-minded professional. I am a Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC) who works with adults, children, adolescents and couples.

If you and your partner are in a relationship that is causing you more distress than joy, I can help. A key part of our work together will include learning how to improve communication skills which often results in a greater ability to compromise and to appreciate one another’s differences.

Or are you a teen or young adult facing school, career or peer problems? I’m told that I am easy to talk to and together, we will sort those problems out.

Talking about your personal life with a stranger is an unnerving thought. As an experienced therapist with adults, adolescents and couples, I’ll help you through that first difficult step so that you can move forward to find the solutions you seek.  I specialize in helping people to manage strong emotions that interfere with their relationships at home, work or school. If you’re having trouble handling anger, jealousy, impulsivity, anxiety or depression, it’s important to know that there’s a way out. The way out is not by avoiding the situation,  “numbing out” with Facebook, video games, alcohol  or by working overtime.

Learning better coping skills and taking charge of the situation is the way out.  I specialize in helping adults, couples and adolescents deal with issues of family conflict, divorce, infidelity and parenting. I also specialize in working with bullied/bullying teens and with teens who struggle with panic or social anxiety/avoidance.

I have an active style in session and provide focused attention and tailored feedback. My office is located in Monroeville in an attractive, confidential setting.  I invite you to call today for an initial phone consultation about how it is that I can help.  There is a way out!

Life is stressful.  There are times when even the best organized, thoughtful, careful, intelligent person finds themselves overwhelmed and feeling alone.  Whether it's a long term chronic issue that you have finally decided to work through such as a childhood issue or trauma related to abuse; or you are dealing with a newer problem such as an identity crisis, job challenge, or relationship issue- I can help.

I work by using systems theory to help understand the forces that have shaped you, redefine the structure of your household, and encourage solutions for the smaller issues so that you have the energy to tackle the larger ones.  I use cognitive therapy to help you examine past choices and make decisions that are more in line with your current goals.  I am also a board certified art therapist so if you would like to express yourself creatively or examine your issues through art, I can provide this opportunity.

My approach is always strength- based and non-judgmental because I'm not perfect and I would never expect you to be. By giving me a call today, we can start a conversation about how I can help.

Maybe you’re new to the idea of counseling and don’t know what to expect. Or maybe you have tried therapy before but came away from the experience feeling that your therapist was “nice” but not particularly helpful.

In our work together, we will focus on identifying changes that are unique to your situation, rather than adopting a “one size fits most” approach. My former clients would tell you that my style is direct, that I’m insightful and that I don’t take myself too seriously. Our days have gotten busier, noisier, and more challenging, and perhaps you have become burdened by stress or unhappiness about the current state of the globe, or the current state of your personal days. Our brains become inundated by too many choices in each day, so that by the time our own wellbeing is on the table, our energy or willpower is just zapped.

If you want to make some changes in your life, or you’re struggling to reach goals, having a mental health professional in your corner can give you the edge you need to get back on track.

Reaching out for help is the first – and often most challenging – step. Using strength-based, relational counseling skills, I will support you in developing and reaching adjustments and resolutions that work for you. Anxiety, depression, grief (regarding loved ones, relationships, or lost opportunities), and addictive behaviors are symptoms, but they are also ways our mind and body try to tell us we are overwhelmed. There are alternative ways to handle these struggles.

I am a licensed clinical therapist. In my practice, I appreciate the significance of holistic health and the role that nutrition, exercise, movement, and time in nature play in mental, emotional, and spiritual well-being. I believe mindfulness and boundary-setting can be life-giving skills and can supplement other solutions when you are feeling overwhelmed. Overall wellness will allow you to: more carefully select your challenges, learn to let go of energy ‘vampires’ (people, obligations, and habits), and build more of the life you want to live.

I look forward to working with you.

Kent Zellefrow, LCSW

Anxiety can feel uncomfortable and debilitating and can cause countless hours of worry, extreme physical sensations, and interfere with quality of life.  Therapy can help to improve these symptoms and get you back to doing the things you enjoy.

Working together, we will identify your goals and develop strategies to reach them.

We will increase your confidence in managing anxiety and the barriers you experience that have a negative impact on your life.  Through the use of Cognitive Behavioral Therapy and Dialectial Behavioral Therapy, you will learn new perspectives and skills to better manage stressful situations.

In addition to specializing in anxiety, I also work effectively with those who are depressed, struggling with losses, or other life-changing events. I also specialize in treating individuals who are experiencing symptoms of obsessive-compulsive disorder. I am interested in hearing your story and would like to discuss how I can help.  By calling today, you are taking the first step in your journey toward recovery.

Life can be difficult and seem unmanageable at times. Taking the step to begin therapy is an important and personal decision. I believe that healing is a collaborative journey that requires honest caring without judgment. I cooperatively assist my clients in what they want during treatment.

I am a licensed professional counselor and board -certified art therapist. Rather than adopting one way of working for all people and all problems, I am eclectic in my orientation and offer an integrative approach to client-centered therapy using family systems work, cognitive behavioral techniques, dialectical behavioral therapy, and art therapy. I temper the process with creativity, imagination and humor, along with practical solutions and concrete goals.

I specialize in supporting adults, adolescents, children and families who are experiencing challenges with depression, anxiety, trauma and loss, family conflict, and personal growth.

If you’re ready to take the next step or wonder how I can help, please contact me. I look forward to starting your healing journey today!

We all become overwhelmed at times with life events that seem unmanageable. As your therapist, my goal in the therapeutic process is to provide an inviting, safe, and judgement -free atmosphere to partner with you in working through these times. I work in a way that promotes clarity of thought and forward movement, including the science-backed use of visualization and imagery to help you harness the power of mindful awareness.

My areas of expertise are OCD tendencies, panic and anxiety, depressive episodes, low self-

esteem, marital/couples’ conflict, grief/loss counseling, issues arising as an adult child of an alcoholic

(ACOA) and chronic pain management. I also specialize in working with adults to assist in the management of adult attention deficit (ADD) and its’ impact on work and family.
